Imperial College, London
Building Pathology and Repair – Silwood Park Farmhouse
Ian Bridge Consultancy Limited was approached by contractors acting for Imperial College, London to rapidly respond to a structural failure at a Grade II listed building owned by the university. Unusual cracking and noises were noted by the occupying tenant of the building and the university informed. Our inspections revealed that historic roof trusses had failed. We immediately recommended the effected area of the building be vacated to safeguard the occupants.
We then proceeded with a period of detailed inspection in association with the university’s contractor opening up parts of the building for us and our supply chain partnering structural engineer to inspect and report on our findings.
Following our initial report and recommendations we were subsequently instructed to prepare specifications and drawings for the remedial works to rectify the defect. This also involved close liaison with the local Conservation Officer and the submission of a Listed Building Consent application and ensuing dialogue with the local authority to achieve an approval of our proposed solution. Our recommendations were implemented by the university’s contractor and the tenant successfully re-occupied the space.
