University of Cardiff
Specification and Drawings for Refurbishment
130 Colum Road
The University of Cardiff approached Ian Bridge Consultancy Limited about a semi derelict, poorly maintained commercial letting residency which they intended turning into student accommodation. We were engaged to design and specify a full and comprehensive refurbishment of the building to provide multi occupancy student accommodation for the University.
Naturally, as student accommodation, we had to create a cost efficient, practical and durable proposal for the development of the property which meant addressing a large variety of issues surrounding the building.
Our first task was to carry out a full measured survey and structural appraisal of the building followed by the production of existing and full working drawings for the conversion of the property. This involved structural and fabric repairs. A principle focus was on redesigning communal kitchen and bathroom spaces for students coupled with the careful selection of appropriate finishes throughout the redevelopment.
We engaged in roof repairs, provided new windows and upgraded fire compartmentation and services, in particular, boilers, heating, LED lighting and a full electrical rewire.
