The Old Library

Hertford College, Oxford – Old Library Accommodation

Hertford College, Oxford approached Ian Bridge Consultancy to assist them with some refurbishment work. The Old Library accommodation in the main Catte Street quad didn’t suit College’s operational needs and required re-configuration of the space. This involved reviewing the fire compartmentation and improving the Fellow’s accommodation on the first floor above the Old Library.

In order to do this, we undertook a full measured survey of the areas involved, produced existing floor plans and developed scheme drawings for College approval. Subsequently, we produced full working drawings and specifications. In addition we tendered the work and acted as the Contract Administrator.

Working with College also required a number of additional tasks. Throughout the project we undertook close consultation with Fellows over finishes and any changes made to their quarters. As a Grade II* listed building a full listed building consent was required for the work. Similarly a full building regulations application was obtained principally for the amendments to the fire compartmentation.
