Condition Survey
Ian Bridge Consultancy were instructed by De Grey Management Limited to undertake a comprehensive building survey covering all elements of Silwood Manor House and stable. The report was designed to describe each individual item separately with the provision of an assessment of its condition against a rating system, specifying any defects and remedial works arising. Our report contributed to an overall Feasibility document compiled by De Grey Management for submission to their client.
Charles Patrick Stewart bought the Silwood Park estate in 1875 and commissioned Alfred Waterstone the celebrated Architect of the Natural History Museum in South Kensington to design the current Silwood Manor house. The completed building was finished in 1878. The property comprises the main manor house arranged over three floors and basement and a ground floor Orangery and a separate stable block.
A specific area of concern for the Client was the condition of heavily spalled ashlar stonework detailing on the external elevations. Our surveyors enlisted the assistance of a specialist stonemason used to working with us on similar listed building projects elsewhere in the country to supplement our report on condition.
We compiled a detailed Excel spreadsheet identifying all defects applying approximate quantities to remediation repairs and in tandem with our stonemason partners and our Quantity Surveyors provided a comprehensive building condition report fully costed to allow De Grey Management Ltd to assess their exposure to remedial repairs and maintenance of this prestigious property.
